2022 Group Long Run Schedule

New to running? Follow our "How to Safely Start a Running Program" 4 week guide

Saturday long runs depart at 8 AM. Meet at Joint Ventures in Kenmore Sq. (648 Beacon St, Boston) Doors open at 7:30 AM.

Pick mileage that suits your training schedule. Feel free to adjust mileage above or below recommendation. Always run first mile very easy and listen to your body.

Note: Mandatory vaccination and masks are required to access Joint Ventures

 Week 1: Jan 1, 2022 (6 - 8 miles)
Week 2: Jan 8, 2022 (7 - 10 miles)
Week 3: Jan 15, 2022 (8 - 12 miles)
Week 4: Jan 22, 2022 (Riverside Run #1)
Week 5: Jan 29, 2022 (10 - 14 miles)
Week 6: Feb 5, 2022 (Riverside Run)
Week 7: Feb 12, 2022 (12 - 16 miles)
Week 8: Feb 19, 2022 (Riverside Run #2 8:30 am start from Riverside T)

Week 9: Feb 26, 2022 (14 - 18+ miles (8 miles 8 am start from JV out and back)
Week 10: March 5, 2022 (Riverside Run #3
10 am start from Riverside T)
Week 11: March 12, 2022 (10-12-14 miles 8 am start from JV out and back)
Week 12: March 19, 2022 (16-18-20+ miles 8 am start from JV out and back)
Week 13: March 26, 2022 NO group run. 10-12-14 on your own (BAA does not want charity runners on the course)
Week 14: April 2, 2022 (10 - 12 miles 8 am start from JV out and back)
Week 15: April 9

Race Day: ​April 18, 2022 
Riverside Runs: This season will include 5 Riverside Runs. Riverside Runs begins from the Riverside T stop at 8:45AM. It is a 10.5 mile run ending at Joint Ventures, Kenmore Sq.  This run covers the Heartbreak Hill section and last 10 miles of the Boston marathon course. Joint Ventures has restrooms, stretching/rolling areas, and post-run physical therapists available to answer any questions. Mandatory vaccination and masks are required to access Joint Ventures. 
Note: This NOT an out and back run. You will need to take the T, uber, or get dropped off at the Riverside T stop unless you don't mind traveling back for your car after the run.

Reasons for modified plan: Started late; Been injured or concerned about injury; Are not up to mileage on schedule

2022 Hill Run Schedule

Tips for Hill Training

Full = 500 meters / Half = 250 meters
Hill runs meet Wednesdays at the bottom of the Beacon St. hill inside the Boston Common (Corner of Charles St & Beacon St)
Start time is 5:30pm, if you need to come late feel free to join in when you get there.
Week 1:  Jan 12  | 2 - 3 full 
Week 2: Jan 19 | 3 - 4 full
Week 3: Jan 26 | 4 full
Week 4: Feb 2 | 4 half & 3 full
Week 5: Feb 9 | 5 full
Week 6: Feb 16 | 6 full
Week 7: Feb 23 | 12 half
Week 8: March 2 | 6 - 7 full
Week 9: March 9 | 6 half & 4 full
Week 10: March 16 | 8 full
Week 11: March 23 | 8 - 9 full OR 5 half & 6 full
Week 12: March 30  | 9 = 10 full
Week 13: April 6 | 6 full
Week 14: April 13 | 2 - 3 full
Race: April 18, 2022

Key Points

  • Adjust mileage up or down based on current training injuries, goals, etc.
  • First few miles should serve as a warm up
  • Pace runs modestly (should be able to talk)
  • Long run benefits: Physical & mental toughness
  • Increase mileage gradually. ​Do not worry if you miss a week!
  • Important to increase hydration; fueling as runs increase
  • These are the most important pieces of the training program.
